Master

Aims of the Master's Degree

Preparing a Master?s aims at increasing knowledge in specialized fields and obtaining skills in scientific research methods.

Study plan

  • Each Master?s is supervised by a committee headed by Deputy for Scientific Affairs. The committee includes a member of the Scientific Research Body, who will be the supervising the study. It also includes the head of the department relevant to the field of the study.
  • A student preparing a Master?s must have a university degree with a good average.
  • Study period is no less than the time assigned at Syrian universities.
  • The course includes several theoretical subjects as well as a research project carried out over a period of no less than 120 days.
  • Arab and foreign teachers with high qualification may contribute to teaching.

Success standards

  • Students must obtain a minimum mark of 60%.
  • Students must submit a report of results with a mark of 60%.
  • The Institute Council verifies success based on the final results.
  • Students cannot fail twice and they do not have to repeat the subjects they had passed.
  • Final average is calculated according to project mark and subject marks which are given a co-efficient based on the number of teaching hours.

Doctorate

Aims of the Doctorate

The aim of the Doctorate is to provide the student with scientific research tools and make him capable of carrying out scientific research.

Study plan

  • It has a period of 3 years and can be extended for a fourth year.
  • A student must publish at least one research paper in one of the renowned scientific journals in the field of his study whilst preparing for the Doctorate.
  • A student works full-time on the study and may teach a maximum of 4 hours at the Institute.

Success Standards

  • A student must prepare original research in a subject proposed by the committee for scientific research and approved by the council.
  • student must submit a thesis which includes the results of the study and which is approved by the panel of judges in a public session.
  • The dissertation must be submitted in Arabic with a summary in a foreign language.

Success is assessed according to the following categories:

1- Excellence: when a student has worked hard for a period of 3 years, understood the subject, arrived at good conclusions and defended his work well in front of the panel.

2- Honors Degree: when a student has worked hard for a period of 3 years, understood the subject, arrived at good conclusions, has achieved scientific breakthrough and published it in more than one renowned journal, and defended his work well in front of the panel.

A student is given a certificate signed by the director of the institute and the Minister of Education.
